About NUT

Our History

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) was founded in 1931 to promote the interests of teachers and improve the quality of education in Nigeria. As the oldest trade union in Nigeria, NUT has played a pivotal role in shaping educational policies and teachers' welfare.

From its humble beginnings with just a few members, NUT has grown to become one of the largest and most influential trade unions in Africa, representing over 500,000 teachers across all 36 states of Nigeria.
